Can I just say I’m glad we get to start a new week tomorrow? Last week was rough. Not only did I end up in the ER but my 90 year old grandma fell and ended up in the hospital…pretty banged up which resulted in some bleeding in her brain. Her fall happened Monday and I continued to monitor things with my dad to see what I should do about heading up to Seattle to visit.
I talked to grandma Wednesday night on the phone and she sounded pretty good but after chatting with my dad I decided to head up Thursday morning. The one thing my grandma was consistently talking about was my baby…her 1st great grandchild. She keeps saying that she needs to hang on until February to meet the baby. So I felt like it was important for me to get up there…not just to see her, but to let her see the bump.
I got up to Seattle Thursday morning and they were moving her out of the hospital to a rehab facility so I hung out at my parents house and did some work. Eventually we headed to grandma’s apartment to get some clothes and stuff and headed to the rehab facility. It’s a pretty nice place but definitely an assisted living space. It’s tough to see your Grandma in a place like that. My grandpa (on my mom’s side) had Alzheimer’s and lived in a nursing home for most of what I can remember of his life. I was still pretty young through most of that but I definitely remember the nursing home so seeing my grandma in a place like that brought back memories. While sad, I guess you could say I feel pretty comfortable in those types of places, more so than my dad so I was glad I could be there.
Grandma seemed better than I thought she would but not as good as she had sounded on the phone. She’s having a tough time with short term memory so while she was reciting things that happened the day I was born, she couldn’t remember my dad visiting her at the hospital yesterday. We definitely talked about the baby and I left her one of our ultrasound pictures so she could see the baby too. She’s definitely excited to find out if its a boy or a girl…she’s rooting for a girl but says boys are good too (she had 3 of them).
After visiting grandma we went back home to hang with Payton. I seriously cannot believe my little sister turns 12 this week. Where did the time go!! We spend most of the evening discussing her 5 page birthday wish list!! Before heading to dinner at Elliot Bay brewery.
The next morning I took Payton to school (1st we had to have a little photo shoot) and then headed back home.
I get back into town, work from home for the rest of the day until 5:30 when we head downtown to hang out with some friends for a night on a houseboat (they won it at an auction). There was also a jet boat cruise which normally I would be fine on but with all my nausea I didn’t want to risk it so I stayed out which Chris went. Still a nice night to be on the water.
The next morning we headed down to Corvallis. Thankfully the Beavs won (so did my Cougs!!!). After the game we headed to the Dream for some pizza and then I miraculously managed to stay awake and drove for the 10:30-midnightish journey home.
And that’s all folks. Now I just have to stay away until Newsroom.
